He is interested in the intersection of economics, statistics and artificial intelligence. He is the author of several R packages and an associate editor of the R Journal. Christoph holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Basel and is a founder and partner at cynkra.

Angelica Becerra is a statistician and data scientist with experience in consulting governmental offices on large-scale survey studies and statistical analysis. She has developed data analysis projects using R and Python with a focus on visualization, web scraping, and reports. Angelica has an M.Sc. in Social and Economic Data Analysis from the University of Konstanz, Germany. She joined cynkra in November 2020.

R Data Scientist with a DevOps Focus (f/m/d)
We are a Swiss consulting company founded in 2018 with a focus on data science. At cynkra, we are a team of data scientists who share a passion for the R ecosystem. Our cross-industry expertise helps our clients solve various data challenges using R and other technologies.
For our team, we are looking for an engaged and motivated R Data Scientist with a DevOps focus (f/m/d) starting in July 2025 or by agreement.
Your Responsibilities:
- You support our clients in developing and maintaining R-based data solutions, with a focus on automation
- You manage existing IT installations on client infrastructure, occasionally outside regular working hours or on weekends
- You also assist in maintaining our own internal infrastructure
Your Qualifications:
Required:
- Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken
- A proactive and self-motivated attitude with a willingness to learn new technologies and take on new challenges in both R development and DevOps
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team and interact with internal and external project partners
- Strong problem-solving skills in a complex technical environment
- Knowledge of the R programming language, including data manipulation, visualization, statistical analysis, package development, database access, and tools for execution environment isolation and control (renv/Docker/nix)
- Passion for transparency, inclusivity, and knowledge sharing in line with the open-source ethos, and a desire to integrate these values into daily work
- Strong understanding of software development principles and best practices, including version control (e.g., Git) and code review
- Good familiarity with the Unix shell and experience working over remote shell connections (SSH)
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools such as CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker), and deployment strategies (e.g., “blue-green”)
Preferred:
- Contributions to open-source R packages or projects
- Experience with tidyverse, devtools, and packages like DBI/dbplyr/dm/tidymodels/shiny/renv
- Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) concepts
- Automation and optimization of repetitive tasks using scripting languages like Bash or Python
Our Conditions for You:
- Full-time or part-time employment
- Residence and work permit for Switzerland or Germany
- Work location: remote, with occasional meetings in Zurich. Two offices in Zurich and coworking spaces can be used
- Occasional on-site appointments with clients in Switzerland and Germany
